Ak-Sai glacier is located at an altitude of 3500 m in Ala-Archa gorge, not far from Bishkek. In this area are situated the most famous mountains of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too, which form the Ak-Sai “semi-horseshoe”. They are positioned in such way that they don’t allow southern winds to enter into the valley, so there formed an enormous thickness of ice.
For climbers there are four base camps, the most famous of which is Ratsek Cabin. Glacier hiking is very popular among travelers from different countries, so there were paved more than 80 routes. The highest and the most beautiful peaks in the area on the glacier are Semenov-Tyan-Shan peak (4875 m), Korona (4860 m), Free Korea peak (4740 m), Baylyan-Bashi peak (4700 m), Simagin peak (4400 m), Box peak (4240 m).
